Well – it’s Good News and Bad News…
The data around the science of confidence and its effect on success is clear.
“People who get the best jobs, report happiest relationships, have better physical and emotional health are those who exhibit the highest levels of confidence.”
So that’s a done deal, right? You’re either confident.. or you’re not.
And all those lucky confident people are going to take all the prizes in life.
Not fair.
Well here’s the thing.
The truth is – it’s more a matter of performance.
Let’s look at public speaking – which we all have to do at some point… whether it’s giving a keynote speech, a job interview, a wedding speech – or even thanking your guests for coming to your party!
Public speaking rates higher than death in the list of what most people are scared of!
Yet even famous actors and performers can suffer crippling stage fright at times.
So it’s not a case of feel the fear and do it anyway, but know how to take control of it so you can still perform.
Then, once you build up a bank of evidence – that you felt anxiety/fear – still performed (or didn’t die!) your confidence grows.
At Wise & Gorgeous – this is the stuff that we know best of all.
We are going to bring you lots of great tips, hacks and insider secrets –
so you can understand and harness your very natural responses of anxiety, panic and fear –
and flip the story so you get to do all the things you want to.
(And get the grand prize of a better life)
For now – a quick tip for next time you are in an anxious situation when you HAVE to gain control.
Tip: Change Your Physiology
(ta-daa)
When we feel an emotion (like fear) our body reacts; heart racing, sweaty palms, hunched shoulders, tense muscles, fast breathing.
It’s our body getting ready to run away (or fight a tiger)… whether or not there is a tiger.
However, it goes both ways.
If you hold a posture of confidence, your amygdala (the part of your brain looking out for threats) says “hang on a minute…the body is confident – it must be safe – there can’t be a threat” and it stops sending out those panic signals.
Try it.
Shoulders back and dropped, smile, loose open hands, head lifted, chest open – even arms high!
Hold that position with deeper (but not forced) breaths for a minute or two.
Feel the immediate relief.
You literally hack your reactions – it can’t NOT work.
Let us know how you get on – we’d love to hear what happened next.
And if confidence is one of the areas you want to dive deep on and MASTER in 2018 – it’s one of the modules we teach you in our signature online coached programme: The Project.
