Genuinely – hypnosis is the closest thing to magic we have in our eclectic (some would say astonishing / exceptional / bonkers) Wise & Gorgeous toolkit. 😉
We are borderline obsessed with it and unexpectedly has ended up being the majority of what we do with people 121.
But a magician never reveals his secrets, right?
Sod that.
Things that ARENT true about hypnosis that you might have thought were:
- You will be under someone else’s control/power etc..
- You will cluck like a chicken (although what happens in the privacy of your own home between consenting adults – is your own business)
- You will eat an onion (this is always a weird one and everyone says it. Literally never ever seen anyone – even the dodgy cloak-wearing kind of hypnotist, do this. That said, I do like a pickled onion).
- You will embarrass yourself. Nope.
- You will remember nothing (Actually you remember pretty much the same as you do in any normal conversation)
- The house could burn down around you and you wouldn’t notice (now that’s just silly)
Things that are true:
- Hypnosis is a natural normal state that you experience many times each day – you just haven’t realised.
- YOU do the hypnosis – the hypnotist just helps guide you there and give you the suggestions you’ve asked them to make. It’s dead straightforward actually.
- An example of everyday hypnosis is that happily disengaged period between waking up on a lazy Sunday morning… and actually opening your eyes. That dozy, comfortable feeling where if someone whispered “would you like a coffee” you’d slinkily stretch and say “mmmm… yes please”. Like that
- You would never do anything during hypnosis that goes against your core beliefs. (A woman once tried to use the fact she’d been hypnotised as defence in court for shooting her husband. Turned out she just didn’t like him).
- It actually feels really nice – we have several very busy business-people come to see us each month for hypnosis to de-stress, get energised and just feel great.
- Hypnosis is the secret weapon that gives you the cutting edge. Actually factually. Exam performance, sports performance and mental clarity are all areas we use hypnosis with.
We won’t lie – it’s one of the most satisfying things ever to hear how people utterly smashed it.
Obviously we take all the credit 😉 - If you don’t want to be hypnotised – you can’t.
End of. T.V. isn’t true. Although Derren Brown is all kinds of tricky – watch out for him. - Hypnosis is wildly effective for stress/anxiety management, willpower and motivation, weight loss, fears and phobia release, pain relief and is used widely within the NHS.
If it cured my (Tanya’s) ridiculously embarrassing girly spider phobia – it can literally do anything.
We are told that 2020 is The Year of Hypnosis.
