Alexa – Wake Me Up At 6:30am

Did you know there’s one purchase you can make that can massively improve your memory,
help you sleep, help you connect with people more and have a better life?

What do you reckon it is?

Nootropics?

Nah.
Vitamins? Maybe but not really what we are getting at.

It’s an old fashioned alarm clock.

I had lunch today with a friend who’s just come back from a technology detox retreat in Greece

(blowing our own trumpet a little bit, but she said exactly this sentence)

“babe, you have to run one of these, you guys would make it way more fun,

this one was dry as old chuff babe – and it was still awesome”

Made me laugh.

Anyway – there is a lot of science to back this up.

When you take your phone to bed, it’s likely you will check it first thing in the morning.

Maybe if you wake in the night.

You take it to bed for the alarm clock.
I get this.

If you have an Alexa/Echo – she can wake you up. Until then.

But it’s slightly more of a serious business.

This social media thing.

It’s making children find it harder to study for exams.
It’s giving our brains too many different things to try to focus on at once, leading to feelings of overwhelm.
When you read a book at bedtime – it’s only the outside world that can distract you.
If you have 10 tabs open in your browser/phone – that’s that context switching we talked about in our Procrastination video again.
And you are distracted many times over.
Sometimes layers of distraction.
Until you forget what you were even doing in the first place.
Ads.
Notifications.

Hard to stay on task.

Hard to catch up again when you are distracted.
Almost impossible to sleep when the seduction of that dopamine hit is just on the pillow there.

And actually harder to process short term to long term memory because you are purposely pattern interrupted.

And if that pattern is your sleep one – well, if you’ve taken our sleep challenge, you know how cataclysmic that is.

If there is one brain-health, stress-busting easy win – it’s leaving your phone to charge downstairs and setting an old-fashioned alarm.

While we are not going to spoil all your funsies and say delete all your APPS – the minimum effective dose for this (MED) is bedtime.
And an alarm clock is an easy win.
Alexa, please wake me up at 6:30 am
