All at once.
The UK solar eclipse, last year was a massive prank. A social experiment by Anonymous. Or Derren Brown. A terrorist diversion. A naughty 15 year old hacker in his bedroom
To get everyone doing what THEY wanted.
I just went to my daughters school to watch the eclipse with all the children.
It was quite sweet actually. Lots of good spirited chat, despite the chilly weather and a lovely little gaggle of lovely 9 year old girls sprang up and bobbed up and down telling me their news.
Fabulous teacher led the ‘event’ and was funny – even on a megaphone that wouldn’t work) (cue general mirth amongst the teachers)
Like a trouper..knowing the mile thick coverage of probably the greyest sky I have seen for some time.
Brilliantly looked out for the educational info He said “Watch the Birds – you won’t see one in the sky”. On cue… 2 flew over.
(“those 2 obviously didn’t get the memo”, a woman said to me)
And it either did or didn’t go a bit darker. Couldn’t really tell. And then everyone went home. Thoroughly British.
“Well, that was 50 Shades of Grey” I heard someone say to a group of mums and dads on the way out. “50 shades of sh^t, more like” her friend said. Someone else said she “felt completely ripped off!” (what, I thought – by the moon???)
Of course – it couldn’t be a hoax, could it? It was on the internet. And in the papers. And the weather forecast.
(Like Michael Fish told us there wouldn’t be a storm in 1987 – and the UK was blown to pieces – dodgy data)
How many of us ACTUALLY checked the details of this? Looked at the STATISTICS.
Found out the ODDS of seeing anything?
But how many more set eBay alight trying to buy special glasses in case they all went blind…(our local mummies group nearly came to blows 😉 )
How many of us took something we read or heard and decided that MUST mean it’s true.
Of course, the eclipse DID happen. Friends up North said it was cool. But if people dahhhn sahhfff, like me, knew the odds of seeing anything were pretty slim…would we have gone all Black Friday about the glasses?
The thing is… you know this stuff.
But what if it HAD BEEN a hoax?
Would you have fallen for it?
Course not, right??
What percentage of people who take part in structured daily exercise and a clean, fresh, healthy diet, meditate and take steps in self improvement for 6 months.
With help, support – and people checking up on them.. would succeed in looking/measuring/feeling/sleeping/being… MUCH better?
You’d estimate pretty high, right?
And you know this, because not because I told you
but because those are scientific facts that you can check.
What percentage of people who attend the major Slimming Clubs succeed…in just the losing weight part (they don’t address the other parts)
Answer: around 16%
Also checkable fact.
It’s not stupidity or laziness that makes us miss the wood for the trees.
It’s the fact that believing what is pretty convincingly told..
Is the normal thing to do.
Sometimes… we are told the whole truth.
And to be fair – why would the met office lie? No benefit.
But with weight loss it’s a different thing.
The people you receive MOST messages from and tell you the MOST information and buy the most advertising space…
Are the ones who stand to make shedloads of money
from you. Like the Slimming Clubs And the diet drink companies..
Despite the fact that you can find out the statistics.. that what they tell you…doesn’t actually work very well.
They rely on the fact that you won’t check.
That you take them on face value.
There are LOTS of giant hoaxes..
Hiding in plain sight.
Facts are – if you had time to do the research and followed the REAL medical and fitness advice.. you can find in all the reliable, official, scientific studies..
And had the motivation to do it all by yourself.
…you wouldn’t need our upcoming Project.
Nor obviously would you need any company that is trying to sell you a bizarre potion, or unfathomable food choices (that you queue up at Iceland to load the freezer with)
But real life is real life.
Often you struggle to fit in the things you already have to do.
Without doing lots of research and finding extra mental
Seriously – here it is:
buy seasonal, unprocessed fresh food, do enough exercise, get enough sleep
Sit still for a few minutes a day. Learn to meditate and practice it daily. Do some work on your mind, find and address the problems that are keeping you stuck in this loop. Drink enough water. Get the data on your hormonal cycle and work WITH it. Prioritise your happiness.
You don’t need to give us any money.
Just do that.
That will work.
