Forty used to sound old
Me, personally…I was always the young one.
Youngest on the playground (young mum). Youngest in the family.
I celebrated my 40th by laying in bed all day in a mood and hoping it would go away
Claire went to a Convent and opted out for a day.
I always thought I would go to Ibiza….
Whatever. Just a number. Just having a final tantrum probably.
So reality.
I was ’40’ when I was 33.
Baby…10 year old… 14 year old… knackering stuff.
I ran a dance school…. not as energetic as you would imagine.
And then I took a turn and wrote a childrens programme which took a few months and man…. I bloated up.
To cut a huge and amazing chunk out of the story (which consisted in me falling back in love with dancing – far exceeding anything before) and I got into shape…ate better…had more energy, and it was easy. Not quick. But not difficult either. I found what worked.
Boom. Rewound things to about 35 in just a few months. Felt good.
Emma, a woman Personal Training with me, (when she filled in her application) summed up how she was feeling;
“Fat, Forty…and F^%ed off” Like a lot of her friends.
Annoying as it is… the game changes when you reach 40.
If you haven’t started to look after yourself really consciously yet, 40 is a wake-up call.
Putting your back out takes a longer to get better about now.
And weight-wise women put on about a LB OF BODY FAT EVERY YEAR in their 40s.
Which takes the p&*s, frankly. And means 10lbs a decade…even if you do nothing differently. You can fight it.. but this is the time for more exercise. And eating better.
Sorry.
Your metabolism is slowing down…is yet another ridiculous forfeit of being female
You had the babies – and the phrase ‘bikini body’ is just frankly rude. And annoying. And sometimes devastating..
Costa has happened.
Galaxy/Walker’s Sensations have happened.
Wine’s crept up.
Gym…not so much.
For a little while now.
and YOU KNOW there’s no choice now – but to head it off at the pass.
Which is annoying.
…and coincides with when you are the PERFECT age to sell you the latest snake oil of a slimming product, or club.
You are at the age that women have a bit of spare cash and ‘Slimming’ companies know that.
As an intelligent woman, the fact that you have tried the same diet – 2 or 3 times. Blaming yourself when it hasn’t worked.
And at the back of your mind…knock, knock, knocking… is that little voice that knows what you have to do.
The ACTUAL healthy eating and exercise thing. And the getting your messed up head sorted out.
(No offence but you know what I am talking about)
40 is the time … as our children would say
…’Shit Got Real’.
(LANGUAGE!!!!)
And actually, P.E. was a long time ago
What else?
Little old ladies don’t walk like that if they have strong bones.
Osteoporosis isn’t curable.
But the right exercise makes it is preventable.
And you can see it off now (if you don’t leave it too long)
Along with the right food (peppers, Guavas, Dark Green veg, kiwi, Berries, oranges, peas) you could be running around with your grandchildren the way you would have done at 30 with your own children.
Vitamin D from Sunshine, beans, oily fish – free range eggs..
You can future-proof your joints NOW with the right food – and the right exercise.
I am not calling you old. That would be the pot calling the kettle black.
But I used to be older…about 10 years ago. Before I got the diet and exercise REALLY right.
The right exercise
the right food
the right habits
Will make you younger now.
And younger for longer.
Like Louise who has cracked her eating and exercise told us in the group yesterday
“I am 41 and feel fitter and younger than 10 years ago”
Sue told us:
“My waist and my hips in particular, appear to be shedding inches. And people keep saying to me, ‘you’ve lost loads of weight haven’t you?!’ which means you can see my shapes changed! I am definitely fitter, healthier and happier”
After a lifetime of trying all the diets, 40 is a crossroads.
Do I give in and do what I know I need to do? (exercise, fresh food, all the rest of it)
or do I sink into middle age… and go to bed in a grump with a Bottle of Port?
Your call.
It’s not too late – but time is about to seriously speed up.
Let us know if we can help.
OOh and stick the kettle on – here’s an old chat…
