#2 Go for the Big Guns

#2 Safety & Security with Systems

So now we’re warmed up nicely, let’s go for the big guns.

Your Grown-Up bills.

  • I’m talking
  • Internet
  • Mobile Phone
  • Sky etc.
  • Credit Cards
  • Mortgage
  • Home Insurance
  • Car Insurance
  • Rent (tread carefully – it’s tricky out there)

Some are clearly easier than others.

Your Home

If you rent, you could negotiate an extended term with your private landlord for a reduced rate.
Tough time for that at the moment, but if you have a great relationship – it’s worth a conversation.

“Hi there, we have been talking about our longer-term plans for at the end of the tenancy.
Would you consider lowering the monthly payment by a little if we extend, as we are so happy here, and that would save future letting headaches for you, etc”

Or with your mortgage company –
you could arrange to meet them for a chat and see what they can do.

Might be nothing, but might be something and it all adds up.
If you have a good credit rating there may be a clever refinance deal that can save you thousands in interest.

With the others, you are in a strong position.

Pick up the phone and be ballsy.

“Hi, I have been a very loyal customer for X years,  and before I go elsewhere I wanted to know if there is anything you can do to lower my payment”
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this USUALLY (but not always) works.

We recently changed from BT broadband to T-Mobile, get infinitely faster speeds, and saved FIFTY pounds a month.
(Or £600 a year)

ONE phone call!

The same with car insurance  – I stayed with the same provider and they offered me a £25pm discount to stay.

This tends to work better if you don’t bang into expensive Mercedes’ in car parks – as used to be my special skill, years ago.
(£300 a year saved)

Most of these industries are pretty competitive and they want to keep you as a customer.

Be prepared for them to say no – you say how disappointed you are and enquire about the procedure for cancelling – then hear their tune change.

If it doesn’t – you don’t have to go through with it.

Energy providers are all vying for business all the time, and there are always savings to be had.

Good luck and go boldly!

Happy Money Hunting…
