I got an email from an on-line ‘guru’ yesterday (it wasn’t personal.. it went to lots of people) but it got my back up.
Then he sent another this morning which was equally irritating,
It’s pretty hard to annoy me these days, but I caught sight of my resting b^tch face in the mirror, so I knew I need to write and see what you thought.
Anyway, the essence was;
you are fed up being a lazy failure, right?
your body doesn’t look like it did when you were 20, eh?
In short –
you are NOT good enough – but you can fix all that if you sign up to my thing.
I cracked my knuckles and wanted to give him what for, but actually, I am going to assume you get this kind of message (whether overtly or otherwise) regularly from the world around YOU.
Buy our ‘must-have’ capsule wardrobe or you are SO last year, darling.
Use my complicated Slimming Plan or you will be a big fat failure.
No thigh gap/six pack/summer arms/bikini booty?
Better get on our 14-day workout or someone might see you looking like that.
And it could be argued that we are joining in with that, with the work we do with people.
We are not.
We want to make you feel better, not worse.
Ours is a voice in a different conversation.
We want you to feel better.
Simply that.
That is not to be underestimated.
How you feel is the most important factor in any moment; that may involve;
moving more, doing less, eating food that makes you feel great, helping you to be calmer and in control.
It might be something else to do with your Mind, Mood, Body or Food.
This is the important stuff
(and beating you over the head with a stick is not going to make you feel better).
So today it’s some context.

Why it’s not your fault – and more importantly what you can do about it.
Which will make you feel better (rather than making you feel bad or just letting you off)
