Minimum Effective Dose = DONE
(or DONE is better than PERFECT)
“We need to get to the bare essential of the bare essential.
MICHAEL HYATT”
Identifying the MED a great way to fight back the temptation to overdo something.
“Anything beyond the MED is wasteful,”
he says, offering this example:
To boil water, the MED is (100oC).
Boiled is boiled.
Higher temperatures will not make it ‘more boiled.’
Higher temperatures just consume more resources that could be used for something else more productive.
You can overbeat cake mixture and cause it to split.
Do enough and then stop – when we start looking at the Eisenhower Matrix and your calendar in detail, this will make so much more sense.
For YOU – overdoing something that is already satisfactory…
(you meant to tidy the house today – you didn’t need to disinfect the loft as well!)
…means you are taken away from the other big picture stuff.
You’ll still be living in as much chaos as before – with one super clean part that wasn’t particularly necessary!
Your MED is likely to be less than you’re doing now in some areas and much higher in others (the things that aren’t getting done)
This is a redistribution of time and energy.
Do this and you will make MUCH more progress on the things that matter most and your overall happiness.
When we start to put your schedule together – this will be key to your success.

- What if the socks weren’t paired?
- What if the bedding wasn’t ironed?
- What else do you spend TOO MUCH time on, that less would be enough?
Action: What’s one activity you could reduce by half and still get desired results?
