The Pareto Principle is the 80/20 rule.
20% of what you do has 80% of the impact on productivity.
80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts.
- In companies – 20% of the staff are often responsible for 80% of the profits.
- In a small business, not only do 80% of the profits come from 20% of your customers – but so do 80% of the problems – never the same groups of customers.
(Working out which customers/colleagues are your brilliant, loyal easy to work with ones AND which are the ones that cause you the most difficulties… and adjusting accordingly – can be the one work change to take you from frustrated and ‘stuck’ to happily thriving)
- There’s a chance that of all the people you call friends, you only spend time with 20%.
- Or wear 20% of your clothes with the other 80% just taking up cupboard space.
- 20% of the household (if there are four of you – that would be ONE PERSON) often undertakes 80% of the chores.
The first time we did a Time Mastery live course with 30 people,
we found that the 80:20 rule applied with the results of their time audits. This has remained constant in subsequent courses and in Human UpgradeWith an average for positive things scoring 20%
and the neutral/negative 80% in their time audit.
If we were coaching you individually with this –
this would be an area we would zone in on hard –
so we encourage you to do this too as we move onto the next phase of our Time Mastery.
Action:
Identify the 1 thing that gives the biggest return for your time/effort in each of the areas –
and the 1 thing that actually gives the lowest return.
Double down on the first, don’t do/mitigate the second.
