You know
when something or something is a new genre
that you haven’t even got the right word for?
If you described the kinds of things Hopkins publicly shouts (was going to say spews but that’s a bit unladylike) to someone 20 years ago….
..they’d say – NAH! No-one would put up with that. There would be a public outcry.
Same as 9-year-olds having iPhone 7s and spending their time with their nose in a screen….
I know.
I sound like your Nan.
Anyway…
She gets paid to say this stuff because The Sun knows people will buy it just to see how awful she’s being this week
And whilst I know you’ve heard them, but here are some of my personal NOT favorites:
Migrants are: Cockroaches.
Food Bank users are: Blaggers
Full time mum – another word for Unemployed.
Dementia Dufferers are: Bed blockers
Suicidal people are: Attention Seeking B^stards
I mean, each of those is a series of emails. The last one is the most frightening.
That could actually have caught someone at the wrong time.
Chilling.
And this one…
If you are obese, you are lazy – so I wouldn’t employ you.
It’s EASY to lose weight.
She gets PAID to say this stuff.
She gets paid to say this stuff because The Sun knows people will buy papers just to see how nasty she is today.
23 Million people…
The middle class, public school educated journalists and editors at The Sun are not printing her bitching for any other reason than money.
And while some of her views might trickle through to the psyche of their millions of readers
That’s a side issue.
It’s cheap sensationalism and it sells papers. The laziest of all the copyrighting tactics. Who CAN’T do controversy?
Our most widely read article is the one I’m least proud of in hindsight. Oh well.
EASY. Leaves a bad taste.
Most people see it for what it is.
“Katie Hopkins, you are wrong – and you are really rather mean”
They disregard her opinion.
Rightly.
Obviously.
But if you water that down quite a lot (and in a similar vein to yesterdays post)…
…you could end up with something that goes under the radar.
“Obese people are lazy and would never get a job.”
Could become:
“You need to put a bit of effort in and lose some of that weight, love. I’m just thinking of you”
(said to a lady I know, by her mother, fairly regularly)
A possibly well-meaning message, heard over time, chips away.
Coupled with the continued onslaught of impossibly skinny women in the media.
We disregard Hopkins’ comments and actions as INCORRECT, as they are so extreme.
But subtler little snipes can slip through our mental net.
Cumulatively, the Hopkinses, the Mother in Law, the girl in the office…can make you feel terrible without offering any kind of help or solution.
Overweight,
low mood,
and emotional eating…
aren’t judgements on someone’s character or worth.
They are a result of where a person finds themselves at a moment in time.
Any more that being forced to flee your country or having Dementia is.
The life they have had so far is what has brought them to this point. And no one else has had that life.
All those things are so interlinked that it really is impossible to address one, without addressing the others. Or it is like running through treacle.
Last month we set a 28-Day challenge in The Project of decluttering the house.
(Seemed a bit frivolous Possibly irrelevant….?)
With a daily breakdown and photos to show the improvements
And people told us how that one act, lifted their mood and made eating better, and regular exercising – easier.
Unpicking that panicky ‘everything is overwhelming’ feeling by solving the problems one at a time
by making it manageable and seeing the knock on effect of lots of different little tasks and challenges to produce a massive change
IS helpful
Where name-calling and judging
is the opposite.
If you would like to join us on The Project to unpick your Body Issues, Eating issues – Low Mood and Confidence issues
If you want to master your anxiety rather than it being the boss of you.
Please register your interest.
We open 3 times a year – and will be in touch with the next start date.
For those who are really ready to sort it all out.
Properly and for good.
No judgements.
Just help.
Lots of Love
