#3 Plump Up Your Pay Packet

1 min read

If you’re currently employed… could you get more for your efforts?

Do some digging.

Glassdoor and similar salary comparison tools let you have a snoop on what others in your position might be earning.
Obviously, it’s competitive out there, and not all positions are the same.

  • Timing is everything.

If you have some recent successes or have bagged a big contract, it might be a great time for a conversation.

If now’s not the time, make sure you are keeping a note of your successes. Results, targets reached, great appraisals, etc, will all add up.
When the time is right, you’ll be armed with evidence to give you confidence in that important salary talk.

Practice and role-play with someone who is prepared to be difficult and build your negotiation skills.

  • Don’t leave money on the table

Are there other benefits that would mean money in real terms for you?
Have a think, and decide if this is the time and get prepared calmly and confidently (rather than all guns blazing!)

  • Prepared to upskill?

Find out if taking extra training would earn you more money.
Many employers allow time and funds for career development – so it’s well worth an ask.

If your boss knows you want to earn more, and that you are prepared to put in extra work in the background that ultimately will benefit the company – you might be surprised by what’s available.

And if not – then at least they know that you’re committed to them for the long term.
