The things you get them that they just don’t want.
And the things they wish you DID get them,
Let’s look at the usual suspects.
#1 BAKING.
This is a lovely thing.
You put heart and soul into making them something
delicious.
Teachers Verdict:
Umm. Ta. OK.
mine:
DON’T.
It will end up in the staff room.
They get loads of this stuff.
They might be allergic.
Like the rest of us they are trying not to
put on too much weight at this time of year.
So your beautiful Red Velvet Cake…
Will be shared by the Teachers and TAs
and that is all very well.
But I think you wanted to get something
for them personally.
#2 Mugs/Body Cream/Candles.
Teachers verdict: Umm… OK
They may well be passed on as Xmas gifts
for unexpected chum visitors.
Meh, at best.
in fact a heartfelt note about what they have
meant to you and your little one
counts way higher on the Teacher gift scale.
From YOU.
#3 Paintings by/
Photos etc of your child.
Don’t want to be mean.
And your child is a special, gorgeous, unique
bundle of gorgeousness.
I mean that.
They really are.
But their hardworking teacherlives paintings
and wall-to-wall other artwork
and notes from your child…
ALL DAY LONG.
And then the next year, and the next.
It is a cute thing.
But it WILL end up in the recycling.
They couldn’t possibly hang on to all this stuff
and actually their attention is with their
current class
(or they couldn’t do their job the way they do)
So it is a sweet thing,
but if you want to get something for the PERSON
that is your child’s teacher
…this may not be the one.
#4 Personalised things.
Actually this IS an option.
So if you know that your child’s teacher
is made on Take That…
a 2015 scantily clad calendar is a fun present.
I once had a ‘teacher bear’ made specially
with the teachers name embroidered
that is now the class ‘take home mascot’.
(I knew the old one had got a bit dog eared)
So, if you have spent time helping in class
and got to know the teacher…
or you have had a great idea
You could come up with something really special.
#5 The thing they
ACTUALLY want.
Gift Cards.
John Lewis.
Waitrose.
Starbucks.
Monsoon.
Top Shop.
Beauty Salon.
Even £5.
£20 is even better!
Always well received.
Always appreciated.
30 lots of gift vouchers are going to
give them some lovely treats of their
choice
