We’ve looked at how your brain changes during hypnosis.
You become less aware of what’s around you and more focused on what’s being suggested. You find yourself not overthinking things where you might otherwise, which makes you more open to making changes.
Both live and recorded hypnosis can get you to this state, but they do have their own merits:
1. Cost:

Consulting with a hypnotherapist in the UK generally costs between £80 and £150 per session. For big-name therapists, the sky’s the limit. You might see them 4-8 times, though many people find they only need one session to achieve the result they were looking for.
Meanwhile, audio hypnosis (also known as self-hypnosis) can be a sensible, budget-friendly choice when funds are limited. Just make sure you research the hypnotist’s qualifications and reputation before you listen.
2. Tailoring:

In-person sessions give you something truly tailored to you. Your hypnotherapist won’t just be going through any motions – they’ll prepare meticulously and adjust their approach based on how you respond right there and then. This personal attention can lead to quicker, directly relevant changes for you. Audio sessions are more general and flexible; you can choose what suits your goals and listen as often as you like.
3. Repetition:

The bespoke nature of a face-to-face session means it’s usually a one-off thing – you’re working on specific issues, and going over them once the changes have been made wouldn’t make much sense. With audio, though, repeating the more general sessions can reinforce positive messages and help deepen your overall trance skill over time.
In short, audio hypnosis lets you dip your toes into the world of hypnosis at your own pace. In-person sessions are fantastic for zeroing in on specific, perhaps more complex issues. Audio hypnosis is fantastic for practising reaching the state of hypnosis, which means you would get maximum benefit from your in-person sessions.
Neither is better or worse – they’re just different tools for different needs. Mixing both might give you the best of both worlds, allowing you to practice regularly at home and get bespoke specialist 1-2-1 support when you need it.
