Let’s start with the obvious.

Formal Practice is the gold standard for Power Downs – the Power Cell that most often gets neglected.
If you schedule something first thing in the morning, you can’t run out of time. It doesn’t matter if meetings overrun, your train is cancelled, or you have to nip back to school with a forgotten lunchbox. Nothing can get in the way if it’s already done!
A well-structured morning ritual sets the tone for your day and can transform your approach to everyday challenges. Dedicating 30 minutes each morning to yourself is a total game-changer. If finding time seems frankly ridiculous, consider going to bed half an hour earlier. This will give you extra morning energy without missing out on sleep. Often, the promise of a peaceful morning to yourself can make the Netflix sacrifice worthwhile.
A great morning routine is the not-so-secret secret, that many super-successful people swear by.
Key elements:

- Movement – to fire up your engine.
- Formal practice – for clarity and calm.
- Journalling – to keep yourself accountable
- Updating your plans – to maximise your energy.
…and anything else that you know would work for you. It doesn’t need to be complicated. Some might put on a homemade avocado facemask, clean their nostrils with a neti pot, drink boiled lemon water, and listen to whale songs. Others might lock themselves in the bathroom, take a few breaths and jog on the spot while the bath fills up.
Whatever you can manage, I invite you to craft a Morning Ritual that you can stick to – so it becomes just how you do things. If you make this a habit, your mental clarity, emotional resilience, and overall energy levels will skyrocket.
Example Morning Ritual:

1. Raise Your Energy with Movement (10 minutes)
Start your day by gently waking up your body. Do some light stretching, yoga, or a walk around the garden. This isn’t just about physical activity; it’s about consciously connecting with your body and greeting the day with vitality rather than aches and pains.
2. Deepen Your Focus with Formal Practice (10 minutes)
Next, transition into a formal practice that tickles your fancy – we’ve given you loads this month, you could find something online or go it alone. It could be a guided meditation, mindfulness, breathwork or hypnosis. Or just some deep belly breathing. Choose something that resonates with how you feel in the morning or what you aim to achieve that day. This will help centre your thoughts and emotions, preparing you for the day ahead with intention.
3. Get Clear with Journalling and Planning (10 minutes)
End by Journalling and updating your Diary, Time Blocks, Eisenhower Matrix, Bridge Model, etc, for about ten minutes. Use this time to jot down your goals, what you’re grateful for, or any insights that came up during your formal practice. This not only helps mental clarity but also helps you stay efficient and on track throughout the day.
Choose things you like
The key to a successful morning ritual is consistency. You have to look forward to it, or you’ll put it off when the bed magnets are strong. Think about how long you would realistically spend and things you actually like. Resist being overambitious. Be conservatively Kaizen if anything.
Over time, this morning ritual will not just be a routine, but a part of your day that you’d guard with your life. By integrating thoughtful movement, focused formal practice, some peace and reflective journaling into your morning, you create a powerful synergy that enhances your personal and professional life.
You’ll be a force of nature.
