Low Cost & Free
OK, this one came from the time my son (child #2 of 3) flew the nest and we reclaimed his as a ‘spare room’.
I’d never had a spare room – and I wanted the thing to be fancy!
So aside from the redecoration…(and fumigation)
I made a Play Drawer.
Essentially, taking cues from some incredibly welcoming extended family in my youth – who made a drawer for guests, filled with… fun little random things to do.
I wish I’d taken a photo of ours (the room has been repurposed at least twice since), but really your imagination is the only limit here.
So if you can spare a whole drawer – the challenge today is to fill it with yours.
Ideas:
* Yoyo
* Rubik’s Cube
* Jigsaw
* Playdough
* Playing Cards
* Extendable Back Scratcher
* Hand Fan
* Board Game
* Soduko
* Short Story Book (I included: Jonathan Livingston Seagull and The Little Prince) they can be loved by all ages and smashed in an afternoon.
* Positive Affirmation Cards
* Mini Puzzle
* Little Photo Album
* Magazine – or comic
* Jelly Beans
* Crossword book
* Coloured pencils /colouring-in book
* Slinky
* Fidget Spinner
* Disposable Camera
* Essential Oils
* Word Search
* Knitting Dolly and Thread (and instructions)
* Whoopee Cushion
* Marbles
* Pick Up Sticks
* Face Mask
Or whatever would delight and joyfully pass a little time, you if you went to stay at someone’s house.
Obviously – you don’t need to wait until someone stops by to enjoy your drawer,
Once it’s filled – go for it.
You can always top it up again.
Have your play drawer ready to bust out when you need a little low-key fun (or distraction).
