Five weeks and counting…If you made a resolution to get fit, eat healthily, learn Mandarin, blitz the house on the first day of Lockdown – you’re 5 weeks in.
It’s the New Year’s resolution equivalent of Mid-February.
Your typical gymgoer looks forward to mid-February because that’s when all the ‘New Years Resolution People’ bugger off – and there’re no more queues for the squat-rack.
We talked about how if you want to reach goals, ‘going it alone’ –
that first big push is really vital to set things in motion.
But there is a point, about five weeks into any new regime – things can go a bit to shit.
That’s about now.
And it’s absolutely normal.
It’s what happens.
Something I read on a mums group earlier today which is a bit mean so I shouldn’t mention it,
(but it’s also funny so I will mention it)
“On the one hand, yes I do want to be toned, lean abs like the ‘disgustingly perky’ celebrity on my fitness DVD says I’ll get
(that I’ve watched twice)
…but on the other hand, I have just ordered a Dominos Pizza, opened the Prosecco and it’s 5:45pm”
The things that get lost, when things get tough (or annoying 😉 ) are the VISION and the REASON
Why the hell am I doing this?
Will it even work?
Will it be worth it?
The REASON you are doing things gets lost in a sea of effort, annoyance, and impatience – and becomes less and less of a motivator to keep going.
There are SO many ways you can fix this.
Let’s look at one.One of the hypnotherapy techniques we really like to use is Future Pacing.
In a hypnotic state (essentially a very particular state of focus, where new habits can be directly instilled)
the client fully steps into a point in the future where their goals are a reality.
It’s more than just wishing it, or even imagining it – but actually fully being there, feeling what they are going to feel, seeing what they will see –
it’s like Time Travelling to that point to get a taste of what life is going to be like.
Then it’s a matter of reverse-engineering; putting in place new ‘sub-programmes’ to make the path to that future feel natural and obvious.
Like a done deal.
Not a ‘what if?’ but ‘when’.

Where you score in different areas of your life – where you are now.
Then clearly defining where you want to be.
Then making the path easy and obvious.
It’s big picture VISION stuff, but we will break it down for you, into simple, tiny chunks.

For you, today – we invite you to define whatever you wanted to use this lockdown to achieve.
(And there is still time, this thing isn’t over yet)
Make that goal as tangible as possible.
Write it out, make a collage, a vision board – whatever is meaningful to you – and display it.
Stick it on the fridge, the mirror – set it as the lock screen on your phone.
Making it real, keeps the goal front of mind for when you start to flag, get impatient or annoyed by deranged lunatics (or disgustingly perky celebrities) to help your motivation stay the course.
Seriously do it today, it will make a big difference, it doesn’t have to take long – we’d love to see.
